The details..

"Clover Mites" is a guide on dealing with the pesky little creatures that are known to invade homes in Maryland during certain times of the year. The book provides detailed information about their ecology, habits, and methods for keeping them out of your home.

The book explains that clover mites primarily live in lawns where they feed on grasses and herbaceous plants but usually do not damage them. They become active when temperatures rise between 45F-80F (7C-30C) while humidity levels are high; this means you can expect these tiny animals to be most noticeable during springtime.

To keep clover mites from entering your house through cracks around window frames or other crevices, it's recommended caulking those areas up as well as using weather stripping wherever possible. Another temporary method involves sealing windows with masking tape or smearing cooking oil or mineral oil on window sills which traps the mites so they can easily be wiped away later if need be.

For those who experience recurring problems with clover mite infestations, installing an effective barrier strip at least 18-24 inches wide around the foundation may help reduce populations significantly. Pesticides such as Insecticidal Soap can also be used for control purposes by spraying portions of lawn close to buildings although immediate results may take several days.
